Today we were all saddened to learn of the passing of Al Jarreau. Bro' Al as I'd like to call him was simply one of a kind with his powerful vocal styling of handling a song. Almost any song that Al Jarreau attempted was done in his own indomitable and endearing style.
In my opinion Al was a cross of the late Jon Hendricks and Joe Williams wrapped in one. Al could scat with the best of vocalist when he laid down a song, whether it was penned by him or someone else, Al practically owned it thereafter. I had the utmost pleasure of seeing him perform while in the audience at the University of Toronto in Canada a few years ago. Al simply left the audience asking for more, I'll never forget his superb rendition of "Midnight Sun" it was pure love and absolutely enjoyable.
The Jazz R&B Soul and Smooth Jazz world would surely miss this fine son of these genres. Al Jarreau thank you for the music. Rest peacefully.
